These are pictures from three different male dorm rooms. In these rooms I see many patterns and signs as to what it means to be a college student. One of the first patterns I noticed is that the rooms tend to be slightly messy and have little to no personal pictures on the wall, and I feel that this is a common occurrence in many male dorm rooms. It may also show that men are less likely to share their personal life with strangers. Also, the rooms have decorative/black lights which is a sign that many people socialize and have fun at night. In addition, I see that the rooms have TV’s and a gaming console, this leads me to believe that many college students play games and watch TV during their free time.

Taking these time diaries helped me to better understand what it is like to be a college student, and showed me the similarities and patterns between the daily lives of different students. Since a few of these time diaries are from some of my friends that go to different colleges, I was shown that daily routines are relatively similar from college to college. I noticed that females generally take longer to get ready in the morning than males do. This could be due to the fact that most females have to put on their makeup and do their hair in the mornings. I also noticed that neither of the females that I took time diaries for said that they played video games during the day. Although this did not surprise me for I have always felt that it was more common for males to play video games than females. In addition, three of the students I questioned reported that they got some sort of physical exercise, whether it be playing basketball, lifting weights, etc. I think that this may be due to the fact that they played a sport(s) in high school and no longer play it in college. So going to the gym or playing basketball may be there way of staying in shape and getting the exercise they were once used to getting.
